The State University of New York at Buffalo, Department of Pharmacy Practice
School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Office of Postgraduate Professional
Education, offers a variety of continuing education courses delivered in print,
seminars and online workshops. These courses are offered in order to meet
pharmacists' continuing education needs and to enable them to select courses
in accordance with their preferred learning styles.
HIV Symposia
These symposia have been developed to provide an overview of important
advances in the diagnosis and treatment for patients with human immunodeficiency
virus. This joint effort by the Department of Pharmacy Practice and the
Division of Infectious Diseases illustrates the academic and clinical
relationships that have grown within the Western New York community of
Infectious Disease physicians and pharmacy practitioners.
Pharmacists may become certified by the University at Buffalo School of
Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in specific disease states by completing
intensive educational programs. Each program includes the completion of written
materials, live interactive lectures, and focused clinical practice time.
This time spent caring for patients, in a specialized clinic, provides pharmacists
with the opportunity to gain ‘hands-on’ experience applying advanced principles
of pharmaceutical care. Each Certificate Program is intended to provide a
foundation for clinical practitioners to develop into experts in the care
of the chosen disease state. The Certificate Programs are well integrated
into the Non-Traditional Doctor of Pharmacy Program, allowing pharmacists
completing a Certificate Program to receive academic credit towards completing
this degree.
