International Perspectives in HIV Pharmacotherapy

The HIV/AIDS epidemic demands a global approach in sharing material and information resources. This justifies the need for international collaboration in addressing the HIV/AIDS challenge. Developed countries already have defined guidelines for using antiretroviral therapy and carrying out resistance tests, with those for therapeutic drug monitoring pending. Meanwhile many developing countries are still grappling with gaining access to antiretroviral therapy and deciding how to utilize it best in situations of limited health care infrastructures.

The International Perspectives in HIV Pharmacotherapy initiative is part of the University at Buffalo's HIV Pharmacotherapy Network designed as a resource center for therapeutic information with an appreciation of the varying perspectives from different parts of the world. Collaboration in pharmacotherapy research and information dissemination is illustrated by the link between the University at Buffalo and the University of Zimbabwe called the International Center for HIV/AIDS Pharmacotherapy Research and Training (ICHAPRT).
